10 Reasons To Love White Rooms

A few weeks ago, someone who was visiting us made mean comments about our home being white. I was obviously offended and hurt that he would make such comments, especially while he was a guest in my home!

And especially since it’s not even finished. I still have to add furniture, rugs, pillows and accessories to complete the look. (There will be some color! Not a lot, but some!)

Then I remembered this post that I published back in July and I re-read it:

What is it about white rooms

That makes me love them so much??

I asked myself that question the other day,

Trying to figure out why I’m so drawn to this absence of color.

A few years ago,

all the accents in my home were deep purple

and if you had asked me then,

I would have said that was my favorite color.

And when I was about 10, my favorite color was red.

My room was wrapped in cherry red

from the carpet

to the bedspread and pillows

to the red light bulb in my ceiling fixture

(which my step-father strongly disapproved of, and I didn’t get the reason why until a few years later when I came to understand what a red light means…yikes!)

But today, I’m all about white!

So, wanting (needing?) an answer to why I’m so drawn to white in my house (and other people’s homes),

I did some research on the psychology of white rooms

And here’s what I found:

1. White is the color of wholeness, completion and perfection.

2. White clears your mind. It’s a blank slate that allows you to be creative.
