Quick and Easy Flower Arranging

I once received flowers in a vase delivered from a florist. When the flowers had died, I took them out of the vase and I saw how they had been arranged in it.

I don’t know about you but whenever I put cut flowers into a container, they always flop down around all the edges of the vase, jar, bucket or whatever I’m putting them in. Then there’s this big bald, empty middle of the container because there is nothing to support the flowers there.

Pretty sad…

The trick that I learned from the florist-delivered flowers for quick and easy flower arrangements is to make a grid across the top of the container to support the flowers in the middle. They used 1/4 inch clear floral tape.

Make sure your container is dry around the outside of the rim. The tape is water resistant but it will work best on dry surfaces. Stretch the tape tightly across the top and tape it about 1/2 inch down the outside.

That’s all there is to it!

Then just place your cut stems into the grid and you’re good to go! I’ve found that it works best if you put most of the stems into the four middle grids.

This flower arrangement technique works for virtually any size or shape container.

The bottom of my vintage bucket has rusted through in a couple of spots so I put a plastic container inside of it to hold the flowers. I think it also makes the arrangement a little easier to do when it’s in a smaller container.

So look around your house and try to find interesting containers to put cut flowers in. Market baskets, vintage crates, hat boxes, china cups, gravy boats, sugar bowls — anything that will hold water or that you can put a water container into — would make awesome flower arrangements.

And remember to use your floral tape grid for quick and easy flower arranging!

There is another way to do really simple flower arrangements. No tape necessary!

Put a single stem in an interesting bottle.

This works best in multiples. It’s really effective to line them up down the middle of a table.
