How To Make An Ivy Topiary

This is an ivy topiary I made several months ago.

Sadly, it’s no longer with us.

But topiaries are so easy to make and really add a touch of spring to a room…

So I decided to give it another go.

And this time I’m showing you how to do it so you can have one too!

The first thing you’re going to need is some kind of circular frame. You can use heavy wire or a wire coat hanger and form your own. Or if you have an old pathetic tomato cage laying around like I did — you can use that!

I used the middle piece because as you can see, it’s already broken. Just use wire cutters and cut the long side pieces off of it.

Then you want to take pliers and bend some legs at the bottom like this

Now just stick the legs of the frame down into your pot of ivy.

Put a couple of inches of gravel into the bottom of your urn for drainage. Place the ivy pot, frame and all, into your urn, wrap the ivy around the frame and secure it with floral wire if needed. Then all you need is some moss on top of the pot and you’re good to go!
