Want to know my most favorite trick ever for decorating my house for Christmas?

I use my wrapped gifts as decor!

It’s so quick and easy to do

You get new ones every year

And you don’t have to take them down and put them away when Christmas is over!

So here’s how to display Christmas gifts for great Christmas decor:

DO YOUR SHOPPING EARLY

You’re going to want to have all your gifts purchased and ready to wrap before you’re ready to decorate. This is good motivation to get all your shopping done early!

USE THE RIGHT SHAPED BOX

Deep boxes and ones that are cube-shaped work best for this. (Shallow shirt boxes just don’t stack that well). Whenever I come across a box that’s a good size and shape for Christmas, I hang on to it. I get a lot of boxes from Amazon deliveries that are perfect for this.

WRAP WITH A THEME

Use coordinating wrapping. Start with a color scheme and be consistent so all your packages work together around the house. You can make the package itself as decorative or as simple as you want — it’ll all look great once it’s piled together.

THE BOWS MATTER

You’re going to want nice, wire ribbon bows for this look. None of those premade bag bows! Get some rolls of wire ribbon that match your wrapping paper and hand tie your bows. You can make them as simple or as ornate as you want. I always have gold, silver and white wire ribbon on hand for my Christmas gifts

USE A NICE GIFT TAG

I rarely buy gift tags. I like to use old Christmas cards as my gift tags. Sometimes I use the whole card and tape it to the front of the gift and write the name in gold pen right on the card. I just add a bow and It makes a beautiful package. Or sometimes I cut out a tree or an angel from an old Christmas card and use that as a tag. Or you can make your own from card stock. Use your imagination for this!

GIFT BAGS WORK TOO

Use decorative gift bags too. They add a different dimension and texture to your display. Be sure to add pretty tissue paper and wire ribbon to coordinate with your other gifts.

PLACE THEM AROUND THE HOUSE

Now comes the fun part — you want to display your Christmas gifts around the house. Stack them into piles of at least 3 gifts per pile. Group them in odd numbers and use different sizes together in the same arrangement.

Be creative when you think about places to display them. Put them on a chair in the living room. On a table in the entry. On the buffet in the dining room. On a bench at the foot of your bed. In a basket by the fireplace. On your armoire. In your armoire. On a bookcase. Just look around for surfaces that could use a little Christmas — the possibilities are endless!

ADD MORE DECOR

You can also add other Christmas decor to your gift display. Greenery, bottle brush trees, ornaments and pine cones are all great elements to add in.

ADD LIGHTS

Now you want to add the finishing touch — lights! You can use regular string lights or fairy lights. Just drape them over and around your piled gifts. There’s just something about Christmas lights that brings the whole room to life.

NOTE: this is not a real fireplace — it’s an electric heater and the top does not get hot. Do not place gifts on or near real fire, flame.or heat.

One of the things I love best about using Christmas gifts as decor is your gifts are self-cleaning! They’re the only decoration that you don’t have to take down and put away. On Christmas morning just grab them (or let everyone go and find their own), pile them in front of each recipient and your un-decorating is done!

So get all your gifts wrapped and look around your house for some interesting and fun places to add a little Christmas…

I promise it’s the best decor ever!
