Living In a Remodel -- It's Not For Sissies! (part six)

HOSTING THANKSGIVING DINNER

Hospitality is my spiritual gift

Decorating is my passion.

And I’m a perfectionist.

Sometimes I’m not sure if that’s a good combination or not…

A couple of weeks ago I decided I wanted to host Thanksgiving at our house. You see, I love having family get-togethers.

It’s that ‘hospitality’ thing...

But then, there’s also that ‘perfectionist’ thing….

So I’m thinking, what is Thanksgiving going to look like at our house this year??

Well, truth be told, our reno is on a break right now. (Kind of like Ross and Rachel.)

There are rooms that are finished. Two bedrooms. One bath. And the office.

But the main part of the house — the dining room, living room and kitchen — are not.

Fortunately, they’re not torn up yet either.

I do have a fully functioning kitchen. Even though it’s stuck in a 1960’s/1980’s time warp.

And the dining room is intact. Even though there’s an old piece of 1980’s gray carpet flopped down over the 1960’s linoleum.

And the living room is comfortable. With plenty of seating.

So today I’m trying to figure out —

Do I set a fancy table? All decorated to the nines? With a linen tablecloth? And cloth napkins? And place cards?

The decorator in me says ‘yes!’

But it’s hard for the perfectionist in me to see all that in the not-so-beautiful, unfinished dining room….

Or do we go buffet-style? And everybody sit anywhere they want? In the living room? In the dining room? Or even outside on the patio?

I think I’ve decided it’s going to be a combination of both. Casual. But nice.

The table will be set — but nothing super fancy.

And we will do buffet-style. And people can sit anywhere they want.

I am so looking forward to all the holidays to come in my newly remodeled home with a brand new kitchen, huge dining room and beautiful living room!

But, you know what??

I am so looking forward to this Thanksgiving!

When our home will be filled with love. And laughter. And joy. And we just slow down and enjoy each other’s company.

And we will give thanks.

That we have our family beside us.

That we have a warm, comfortable home.

That there is food on our table.

And we are so richly blessed.
