Our New Hardwood Floors

(this post contains affiliate links)

I have a confession to make.

Some of the photos I’ve posted here in the past

Have had the floors cropped out of the image.

Because, well…

That carpet was so bad!

But we had to live with it until we could install our hardwood floors.

(And, hey, things take a while when you're DIY-ing your whole house…)

I didn’t crop it out of this photo because it’s harder to see

(And I didn’t want you to wonder why the feet of my furniture were always cut off in all of my photos!)

But if you look closer…

Yikes!

There it is.

(Not to mention — no baseboard yet either)

But now…

Nothing to be embarrassed about here

Now we have new, rough-sawn, matte finish oak floors!

I just love the way they look!

They’re glue-down, engineered oak. They have visible saw marks which makes them look a little more rustic. And the oiled matte finish is so nice. They’re really easy to take care of — all we do is vacuum them. And we mop them every once in while with a special cleaner.

Now we’ve gone from this

Keep in mind, we still need to get area rugs to warm up the space and soften the look.

But in the meantime, we’re loving our hardwood floors!

Next, we’ll be starting on the kitchen —

That’s going to be a huge project.

And we’re trying to decide if we should continue the hardwood floors into that area or not.

We had hardwood in the kitchen in our previous house and I thought they were great.

But Mr. Redoux is thinking he doesn’t want them in this house.

What do you think?

Do you like hardwood floors in the kitchen?
