One More For the Road...

January was the month for organizing.

So by now, I hope everyone has their pantries and junk drawers and spice drawers and closets in order.

But did anybody think about the car???

Maybe I have an over-active tidiness gene but to me, there’s nothing better than a neat and organized car.

We have an SUV and the center console is the black hole of the vehicle.

It’s this deep pit where things go to never be seen again.

Pens... Money… Hand Sanitizer... Glasses… Gum... BB&B coupons… Lotion… Business Cards…

Everything gets tossed in there.

Good luck trying to find anything!

One day I had had enough and I decided I needed to do something.

So I looked around the house to see what I could find to use to organize it .

Now, I’m pretty sure you can buy console organizers online for the make and model of your vehicle — but where’s the fun in that?? Besides, I was too impatient to wait for days for something to come in the mail when I wanted to get it done NOW.

So here’s what I came up with:

These containers fit just right in the bottom. They originally were square but after a couple of days in the car, they morphed into the shape of the console!

BTW: that brass tool with the point on it is an automatic center punch. I have it in my car because when we lived in Northern California, I drove over the dam of a small lake near my home every day. If you car is ever submerged in the water your electric windows won’t work. That tool will break your window so you can get out.

Next I put all the business cards in this small container with a lid.

And that’s the bottom layer.

Then I discovered that this kitchen organizer fits perfectly on top. It’s exactly the shape and size I needed.

It’s actually a kitchen packet organizer!

I’ve found that the slots on the side of the console don’t really work that well for coins. So I put all our spare change in a small container with a lid that fits right into the organizer.

Then it was time to tackle the coupons and gift cards.

This pencil pouch is just right. And I like that I can see what’s inside.

And it fits perfectly tucked into the side of the console!

So there you have it.

Nothing fancy.

Nothing expensive.

Just simple car console organization ideas.

And if you’re really in the mood to organize some more — how about all those cords and cables under your desk???

You can read all about how to organize those in this post here

Or maybe that’s enough organizing for now…

Maybe we should go get ready for Super Bowl Sunday…

Or make some Valentine’s cookies…
