Did you know that there are some rules that are really good to follow and some great tips to know when it comes to burning candles?

Of course we all know you should never leave them unattended

But did you know that you shouldn’t burn a candle for much more than 4 hours at a time? If it burns for longer than that, carbon can build up on the wick and cause a very large dangerous ‘mushroom’ flame

And candles have a memory. (I’m glad something in my house does these days!) Once you’ve burned the candle and melted the wax it will return to the same pattern every time. So to get the longest life out of your candle, burn it to the edge the very first time — approximately 1 hour for every inch of diameter of your candle

Always trim your wick to 1/8 - 1/4 inch every time before you light it. Long wicks can smoke and cause soot to build up on the sides of your container. You can use nail clippers, scissors or even a wick trimmer to keep your wicks nicely trimmed

Did you know that cold candles burn longer? Put them in the fridge for about an hour before you light them and they’ll last a lot longer. I even keep my new tapers, votives and pillars in the freezer because they will have a longer life if they’ve been frozen

Once your candle has burned down to 1/2 inch it’s time to let it go. But you can remove the wax and keep the container. Just put it in the freezer for a few hours and you’ll be able to pop the wax right out. Then wash your glass with hot soapy water and it’ll be sparkly clean.

So light up your votives, pillars and three-wicks

And settle in for a nice relaxing tub —

You deserve it!
