Adding Architectural Details To Your Home

Our 60’s ranch style house has great bones.

But there was no trim or molding anywhere.

It looked so unfinished.

Kind of Plain Jane…

So we’re trimming out the windows.

Nothing fancy — just simple flat molding.

Painted the same color as the walls but in a semi-gloss finish.

It’s amazing the difference it makes in the room!

Now it has a little character. A little detail. A little interest.

And it looks finished.

Another good reason to trim out your windows is that you can fix it if the opening is not exactly square. This window was out of square by three-quarters of an inch. So Mr. Redoux shimmed, trimmed and leveled and now it’s perfectly square.

He’s so good to have around…

PS Our remodeled Guest Bath reveal is coming soon!

Another great way to add architectural interest to a room is with wainscoting.

I love the look of a 5 foot wainscot in a bedroom behind the bed.

It adds so much polish to a room.

Window trim and wainscoting are just 2 ways we’re adding architectural details to our house so far.

We have a lot more rooms to go and I have some great ideas on how to add more details in those rooms too.

Then this house won’t be Plain Jane anymore…
